Jordan photos: Diving

The gulf of Aqaba is tucked away in the northernmost corner of the Red Sea. It has little current and the water temperature is quite constantly warm, so the coral reefs thrive.

The diving here is not of the big-action kind; the conditions are calm, and in general there isn't enough current for the big pelagics to thrive (although we had seen dolphins, and there has even been one spotting of whale sharks). However, we have seldom seen prettier corals, and the density of small fishes is incredible.

A clown fish guarding its anemone. Then a pipe fish, and more lovely corals.

Locals fish for crabs and small fishes using these wire cages with some bread at the entry canal -- very often they get the reef fishes in them, and we don't approve so we get them out again.
