Yugoslavia in October 2000, part two

There is a lot of local produce at the farmers market, but the prices are in general too high for the majority of people. The sugar in the state owned shops is still cheap; but then, the queues are very long. Sugar can always be bought on black market, but many people, especially pensionists, can't afford the black market prices.

Playing cards with grandmother; she is still very good at it, even though she keeps saying that at 86 she is too old for anything (and then goes out to chop some firewood), and she tries to cheat.

With grandmother. My uncle Lali is making bullets for his hunting rifles.

With my little cousin Ivana.

Grandmother and then grandmothers cat (the kitten had adopted this teddy bear as a replacement for her brother who disappeared some time ago).

Some more family photographs from Becej: Ivana with Karci and Andreas, and Laci's family.

Demonstrating at the Miletic Square, or rather, celebrating.

I liked these cats - could not tell where one ends and the other begins.
It was a chilly, early morning, and they were keeping each other warm.
