January 2004, Thailand: Flower Markets

These photos are from a flower market I walked througth every morning on my way to the massage course at Wat Pho.

Wandering in those narrow passages among piles of orchids, jasmin garlands, lotus buds and huge rose bunches was a simply perfect start of the day. It felt like a greater luxury than any money could buy. The smells were wonderful; the prices were so low I was simultaneously happy and sad I couldn't physically take one of those big rose bunches to each of my friends. Still, I did not manage to resist buying a small jasmin arrangement every day, until my little hotel room smelled like a huge bar of soap and I was wondering how it is possible to sleep in such an overload of perfume.
