August 2004, Montenegro: Herceg Novi

Savina, where we stayed, is a suburb of Herceg Novi, a medium sized old town in the bay of Boka Kotorska in Montenegro. Its is approximately one hour's drive south from Dubrovnik in Croatia. This is a view of Boka:

Herceg Novi is built around old forts that were used to protect the locals from Turks, Venetians and any other maritime attacks. The high monutains around the city gave it natural protection from land attack. The city has not only kept its beautiful old architecture, but also many of the traditions as well.
